The Extend360 Agent

One agent to install, update, monitor and remediate endpoint security and connectivity software.

The Extend360 Agent is a software agent that runs on laptops and other mobile devices. It includes:

  • An Endpoint Services Manager that can install, monitor, update and remediate a variety of endpoint security applications.
  • An easy-to-use Connectivity Manager that allows employees to access the Internet using any available connection type, including dial-up, ISDN, broadband, Wi-Fi and wide-area wireless.

Application Installation

Based on software and policy information sent from the Extend360 Management Center, the Extend360 Agent can install security software applications on mobile devices. If the applications are already present on the devices, the Extend360 Agent can integrate with them.

Persistent Policy Enforcement™

The Extend360 Agent continually scans systems to ensure that required software is installed and running, that threat signature and other files are up-to-date, and that the registry and other settings are correct.

Persistent Policy Enforcement™ includes:

  • Application monitoring.
  • Virus signature, DAT and configuration file updates.
  • Compliance enforcement and remedial action (if needed).

Fiberlink’s Persistent Policy Enforcement is an “always on” service that operates from system start-up to shutdown, even when end-users aren’t connected to the corporate network, to ensure that information on the laptop is always protected.

Network Access Control and Real-Time Remediation™

The Extend360 Agent™ continuously assesses the security status of remote computers. The software can determine if:

  • Windows patch levels are up-to-date.
  • Firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion protection and other security applications are installed and running.
  • Virus and other threat signatures are up-to-date.
  • VPN credentials and connection policies are up-to-date.

Administrators can define what conditions constitute non-compliance, and what actions to take such as:

  • Notifying the employee.
  • Restarting security applications.
  • Remediating system software by installing patches, rebooting the system, etc.
  • Invoking a script created by Fiberlink or the customer that carries out additional checks or remediation actions.
  • Terminating specific applications.
  • Terminating Internet and VPN connections, to prevent an out-of-compliance system from accessing enterprise networks.

A “network lockdown” feature can restrict non-compliant or partially-compliant systems to specified IP addresses or IP ranges. This can be used to direct non-compliant computers to a remediation area or to network segments that contain only public information.

These features ensure that enterprise networks are protected from non-compliant mobile devices, and that the information on the mobile computer is always protected.

Universal Connectivity Interface

The Extend360 Agent™ gives employees a simple connectivity experience, reduces calls to the help desk, and lets administrators set the right balance between connectivity cost and performance for each type of employee.

The “Active Transport Notification” feature detects and displays all connectivity options available to the laptop, including all wireless connections and Wi-Fi hotspots within range, so employees can select the best available connection.

The Extend360 Agent™ automatically takes all of the steps needed to establish a secure connection, including using a phone book to find the nearest dial-up access point, checking to make sure that the computer is in compliance with the enterprise’s security policies, and initiating the appropriate VPN client.

Automated Updating and Policy-Driven Management.

Configuration and policy changes are entered in the Extend360 Management Center™, which distributes them to the appropriate mobile computers. The Extend360 Agent™ on each computer then updates:

  • Connectivity policies
  • Phone books
  • Wi-Fi profiles
  • VPN profiles
  • User credentials
  • Security policies
