BLUE BELL, Pa., October 10, 2007 - Fiberlink Communications Corporation, the trusted expert for simple, secure mobile working, has provided Volkswagen Group with a secure mobile working service for its workforce. Volkswagen Group has deployed Fiberlink’s Extend360 software to over 12,000 laptop users across its European operations, providing these workers with secure access to dial-up, Wi-Fi, hotel broadband, 3G and GPRS connectivity through a single user interface.
Volkswagen Group, which also owns the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat and Skoda car companies, previously operated a number of separate access agreements and software platforms with different vendors. By consolidating everything into a single platform with Fiberlink, Volkswagen has been able to significantly reduce its remote access costs, simplify the management of its mobile computing service and reduce support requirements for its mobile workforce.
Fiberlink’s Extend360 software is integrated with Volkswagen’s existing Virtual Private Network (VPN), Personal Firewall and Anti-Virus software and monitors their components. Volkswagen’s IT department is able to set policy for the operation of these security applications, by user group, which is then enforced by the Extend360 software so that laptops are protected when they are off network. This security policy enforcement is always on and completely transparent to the user. Fiberlink also provides Volkswagen with a managed authentication service for users. Volkswagen Group now benefits from one single bill for its mobile working service and has access to a number of customizable reporting services which it uses to track key metrics such as connectivity success rates, security policy enforcement and access costs.
“With 12,000 supported workers the Volkswagen project is a real testament
to the enterprise-grade capabilities of Fiberlink’s secure mobility service,” said
Steve Hammond, President Fiberlink International.
