Fiberlink Integrates Sana Security's Primary Response SafeConnect into Extend360 Mobility Platform(TM) and Unveils New Service at RSA Conference 2007
February 1, 2007
BLUE BELL, Pa., February 1, 2007 – Fiberlink Communications Corporation, the trusted expert for simple, secure mobile working, today announced the addition of zero-day threat protection to the company’s portfolio of managed security services. Fiberlink’s network and data security services help organizations shield at-risk mobile workers against hackers, viruses, spyware, the loss or theft of laptops, and other threats to mobile information. With this announcement, Fiberlink adds behavior-based protection from Sana Security to thwart attacks that are spawned on the same day that vulnerabilities are discovered.
Zero-day exploits can potentially cripple corporate networks by taking advantage of a flaw immediately after it is discovered – even before software patches are released. Zero-day threats are extremely dangerous, often leading to the disruption of business or loss of confidential information. These threats escape detection and removal by anti-virus packages or other defenses that rely on pre-existing threat signatures.
"Security is of utmost importance to mobile work, but the challenge in keeping up with evolving threats is overwhelming," said Andrew Jaquith, senior analyst, Yankee Group. "Our research shows that while 99 percent of corporations have deployed anti-virus software, nearly two-thirds (64 percent) nonetheless suffered virus or worm outbreaks that disrupted at least one business unit. Traditional signature-based security products can't stop zero-day attacks.”
Fiberlink is the first company to provide zero-day protection as part of a comprehensive suite of integrated managed endpoint security services. Fiberlink’s Extend360 Mobility Platform monitors, remediates and updates security software on remote laptops so they are always protected, even when they are not connected to the corporate network. It gives IT visibility into the security posture of mobile systems, and helps organizations demonstrate compliance with regulatory mandates and corporate policies. Enterprises can reduce operating costs and give IT managers more time to focus on strategic tasks. The Fiberlink-Sana Security solution will be available to customers during the first quarter of 2007.
“Without zero-day protection, each time a new vulnerability is published and exploited by an increasing number of malware variants, IT managers are in a foot-race to see if they can patch all of their mobile systems before a bad guy can exploit the opening. And they can’t expect to win that race every time,” said Mark Cashman, director of product management for Fiberlink. “Fiberlink is dedicated to providing a complete set of mobile security services to our customers, and zero-day protection is an essential addition to our arsenal.”
Unlike reactive solutions that require updates, signatures and scanning, Sana Security’s
Primary Response SafeConnect is an anti-malware solution that uses a multi-behavioral analysis
approach to examine the operational characteristics of the PC. These behavioral characteristics are
built into the product and provide better depth in defense security to fight Rootkits, trojans,
adware, phishing and other malware attacks. The product is field-proven to not only detect but also
to completely remove complex malware variants including those that are designed to survive re-boot.
“Our partnership with Fiberlink enables instant and constant protection with the
ability to detect and completely remove stealthy malware threats before they can disrupt the normal
work routines of a mobile workforce,” said Timothy Eades, senior vice president of sales and
marketing, Sana Security. “The 24x7 protection provided by Fiberlink’s Extend360
Mobility Platform and Sana’s Primary Response SafeConnect is always up to date and protects
PCs with no further action required on behalf of the user.”
Fiberlink and Sana Security will participate in a joint exhibit and will demonstrate this new service at this year’s RSA Conference on February 5-9, 2007. They can be found at booth #2342 in the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA.
