Fiberlink Launches Professional Services Practice

Consulting Services Covering Security, Business Continuity, Compliance and Customization Will Help Organizations Deploy Mobility as a Strategic and Integrated Business Initiative

August 9, 2006

BLUE BELL, Pa., August 9, 2006 – Fiberlink Communications Corp., the trusted partner for enterprises that want to simplify and secure mobile working, today announced the launch of Fiberlink Professional Services.  The new offering includes a series of methodologies, best practices, and consultancy services, all designed to help organizations deploy mobility as an integrated part of their existing IT systems, security policies, business continuity plans, and compliance requirements. Fiberlink consultants will work closely with customers from initial planning, through policy and baseline setting, to implementation, and provide ongoing education and support.

Key areas addressed by the new Fiberlink practice include mobile device vulnerability and compliance requirements. A new vulnerability assessment program, for example, helps companies to understand the security risks presented by both existing and planned mobility implementations, set baselines and best practices for securing mobile devices, then implement the products and processes needed to meet those baselines and best practices.

As the workforce becomes increasingly more mobile, organizations are looking to move beyond tactical projects to deliver a strategic, enterprise-wide approach to mobility that integrates computing devices with existing IT systems, policies and processes.  Eric Paulak, Managing Vice President, Gartner, Inc., stated, “In today’s rapidly changing managed mobility market, it’s critical that vendors teach their customers how to maximize the value of their services to effectively gain control over mobile devices and reduce vulnerabilities. Vendors should use the power of their solutions to deliver ongoing education and consulting that will empower their customers.”

Fiberlink’s new consulting services evolve from the company’s deep heritage and expertise as a leading mobility solutions provider, which it has amassed over the past 12 years working with hundreds of Fortune 2000 companies around the world.

The Fiberlink Professional Services team comprises dedicated security and mobility experts who offer enterprises services in the following practice areas:

  • Implementation Services – services designed to assist new and existing customers with the implementation of Extend360™ mobile access software and related managed security services. Also includes services for planning and mobile system configuration management, an emerging and critical requirement for many enterprises.
  • Security and Mobility Education and Training – standard and custom documentation, education and training programs, designed to accelerate the adoption and usability of mobile solutions with customers.
  • Security and Mobility Consulting – security assessments, custom compliance and configuration services, application certifications and custom software development -- all aimed at addressing the ongoing mobile and security needs for individual enterprises.

According to Fiberlink’s Vice President of Product Management and Professional Services, Jim Szafranski, “Fiberlink Professional Services allow customers to leverage our deep knowledge of enterprise mobility and quickly implement a solution that is designed specifically to meet their needs today, and in the future. These new services enable Fiberlink to meet specialized education, configuration, implementation and support requirements and offer ongoing consulting services to help maximize the benefits of organizations’ growing mobility investments.”

PPG Industries, a manufacturer of transportation coatings, a global supplier of industrial and packaging coatings, and a leading producer of architectural coatings, selected Fiberlink Professional Services for help with documentation and custom solution training in the U.S., Europe and Asia.  According to Mauro DeFelice, Manager of Global Telecommunication Services, of PPG Industries, "Fiberlink was able to help us with specialized training and best practice documents that were vital to educating employees about how to manage mobile worker challenges quickly and effectively while complying with established policies and maintaining security.  Together with Fiberlink, we identified our needs and Fiberlink responded with a plan to address them.  It was clear they understood the environment we described, had experience with the issues we faced, and used their expertise to develop an effective plan for our organization."
