Fiberlink Extends Managed Service Offering with Internet Security Systems to Detect and Prevent Threats and Make Mobile Computing More Manageable for IT
June 26, 2006
BLUE BELL, Pa., June 26, 2006 – Fiberlink Communications Corp., the trusted expert for simple, secure mobile working, today announced a new managed security service with Internet Security Systems (ISS) that will detect and prevent threats targeted at mobile and remote workers. Fiberlink and ISS have tightly integrated ISS’ Proventia Desktop Endpoint Security into Fiberlink’s Extend360™ mobile access software, which runs on the company’s Dynamic Network Architecture™ service platform. This fully managed solution builds off of Fiberlink’s deep expertise in extending best-of-breed security services out to mobile endpoints, and delivers a comprehensive mobility framework for enterprises looking to simplify and unify the process of supporting a growing mobile working population.
Fiberlink and ISS have a long history of working together to address the challenges brought on by increased mobility, and were among the pioneers of managed endpoint security five years ago.
As threats and malware become more sophisticated – due to the fact that today’s hackers are frequently motivated by profit - their attacks become faster and more difficult to detect and prevent. Many attackers have realized the best way to infiltrate a company is through their mobile workers and the devices they use. Therefore, managed threat protection needs to be delivered around the clock and must be supported by a services provider that understands the effects of mobility and the potential havoc it can wreak on worker productivity, business performance or company reputation if not managed properly.
“Anti-virus and anti-spyware software is no longer sufficient to protect mobile workers. In the past 12 months, the emergence of sophisticated, zero-day threats means that businesses need to augment their traditional anti-malware protections," noted Andrew Jaquith of Yankee Group. "Products that provide behavior-based detection and blocking, like ISS' Proventia host-intrusion protection software, are an essential part of today's defenses. This relationship is good news for Fiberlink and ISS, and even better news for their joint customers.”
ISS’ Proventia technology offers advanced behavioral analysis to detect families of viruses and worms without reactive signatures, as well as a “virtualization” technique that creates a safe environment to detect malcode prior to execution.
Fiberlink’s new Managed Threat Protection Service utilizes Proventia to identify and block attacks, intrusions, viruses, worms and all types of malicious code, and filters unwanted traffic and spam without requiring user intervention. By bundling a wide range of security software with an array of access options, Fiberlink can offer comprehensive protection, combining continuous vulnerability assessment and threat prevention with business information and reporting capabilities.
Working closely with the IT organization, Fiberlink will write requirements for discovery, design and specification, configure a base agent, pre-test software, create a software build package and “push” the solutions to end-users via Extend360 mobile access software. The company offers 24-hour support, trouble shooting and management, will send security vulnerability updates to mobile workers, and offers a self-service event-reporting portal. Existing customers may want to take advantage of Fiberlink’s new Enterprise Professional Service to speed upgrades of their existing personal firewall software.
“Together, Fiberlink and ISS deliver global enterprises the strongest endpoint defenses available in the market by distributing them through a fully managed, fully hosted solution across a company’s remote network of computers, laptops and other mobile devices,” said Rick Miller, vice president of managed security services for Internet Security Systems.
Fiberlink provides software and services that help enterprises securely mobilize their workforces. Since 1994, more than 800,000 mobile workers have relied on Fiberlink’s solutions for simple and secure access to e-mail, corporate data and other network resources.
