MEA Selects Continental Airlines for "Best Mobile Security Award"

November 28, 2005

BLUE BELL, Pa., Nov. 23, 2005 – Fiberlink Communications Corp., a leading and trusted enterprise partner for secure mobile workforce solutions, today announced that its valued customer Continental Airlines was honored as a winner of the 2005 Mobile Enterprise Alliance (MEA) Mobile Impact™ Award for having the Best Mobile Security. Continental Airlines depends on Fiberlink for connecting and securing its mobile workforce to business-critical and network-based resources when away from the office. Fiberlink’s Extend360 software strikes the delicate balance between maximum security and the broadest portfolio of connectivity options, thus delivering greater business value and a lower total cost of ownership over other mobile working solutions.

The Mobile Impact Awards are presented by the Mobile Enterprise Alliance (MEA), a global advocacy group promoting the business benefits of workforce mobility to enterprise end users and decision makers. The awards honor leading enterprises for successful and innovative deployments of mobile enterprise solutions that successfully balance technology investments with business objectives.

"We were looking for a successful and innovative deployment of a solution that balances technology investments with business objectives,” stated Daniel Taylor, managing director, MEA. “ And Continental Airlines vividly illustrates how Fiberlink’s solution made working on the road easier on employees and also made good business sense.”

Continental’s business depends on keeping workers productive wherever their work takes them.  With over 1,500 mobile users, secure mobile computing is crucial to all facets of Continental's operations including: city ticket offices, corporate headquarters, outside sales, and various other types of support operations areas. But as the world’s #1 rated airline by consumers, they also understand the critical importance of security in today’s social and economic climate.

As Continental’s mobile connectivity needs expanded from dial to broadband to wireless, so did the complexities of managing its mobile workforce.  The company wanted a solution that could combine comprehensive access with end-to-end security into a single, unified package. Therefore, the company chose Fiberlink's mobile access software to ensure the integrity and security of its corporate network, to enable simple management of usage, performance and billing, and to provide its employees with a robust and cost effective solution.

“Fiberlink’s mobile access software allows our IT team to integrate multiple levels of security which is extremely valuable since it allows us to proactively protect laptops and other mobile devices ourselves,” said Stacey Thomas, Continental Airlines’ senior manager of telecommunications technology. “We can ensure that all our employees are in line with corporate and security policies, and have the connectivity options they need to stay productive while working away from the office.”& amp; amp; lt; /p>

Continental has been able to reap enormous cost savings, reducing its cost of mobile access by over 50 percent. They simultaneously achieved their goals of providing their employees integrated multiple access technologies, and adding multiple layers of security to their mobile access solution.

“With the promise of increased productivity via ubiquitous broadband access becoming a reality, security and control are increasingly important challenges for companies to address,” said William Wagner, Fiberlink’s chief marketing officer. “We congratulate Continental on this award and for using Fiberlink’s software and services to achieve the perfect balance between mobility and security.”
