Blue Bell, Pa – May 25, 2005 – Fiberlink Communications Corp. today announced the release of its flagship Extend360™ mobile access software for use on Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs. Extend360 is a comprehensive mobile access software package that combines the industry’s most extensive suite of transport options, including dial-up, Wi-Fi, wide-area wireless and broadband access, with endpoint security services to enable mobile workers to safely connect to their corporate network anytime, anywhere.
Windows Mobile Operating Software accounted for 46 percent of worldwide PDA operating systems shipped in the first quarter of 2005. By offering broad support for mobility platforms such as Windows Mobile, Fiberlink now enables remote and mobile workers to access vital network resources while working away from the office using Fiberlink’s Extend360 access software on their inter-connected PDAs.
“Fiberlink’s Extend360 software has become an indispensable tool in the daily routines of thousands of business travelers worldwide,” said Billy Stephens, vice president of Product Management. “When Gartner’s research showed roughly 1.5 million Windows Mobile devices shipped in the first three months of 2005, we saw a huge opportunity to extend our mobile workforce solutions to users of personal digital assistants. Workers that use a variety of connected PDAs – including those running on Wi-Fi and CDMA/EV-DO networks – can now use Extend360 to access all their network resources in the same way they access resources from their laptops.”
Fiberlink’s Extend360 mobile access software offers immediate support for devices running Windows Mobile 2003 and equipped with Wi-Fi or wide-area wireless connections. Fiberlink’s support for the forthcoming Windows Mobile 5.0, announced by Microsoft on May 10, 2005, will be announced at a later date as devices with the newest Windows Mobile operating system begin to come to market.
Fiberlink provides the software and services that enable enterprises to securely mobilize their workforces and strike the best balance of user productivity and IT control. More than 800,000 mobile workers have relied on Fiberlink’s ubiquitous Wi-Fi, wide-area wireless, broadband and/or dial-up solutions for “no-hassle” access to e-mail, data and other network-based resources. Fiberlink’s mobile workforce solutions go beyond basic network connectivity to ensure IT organizations have total control over the myriad security threats, compliance policies and cost concerns that are often associated with mobile computing. Gartner, Yankee Group and Burton Group consistently recognize Fiberlink as an innovative leader in mobile and remote access solutions. Fiberlink customers include Continental Airlines, Grant Thornton and Targus Group International. Headquartered in Blue Bell, Pa., Fiberlink has offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
