Continental Airlines Chooses Fiberlink to Enable Anytime, Anywhere Access to the Corporate Network with Cost Savings of Over 50%

Continental Adds CDMA, Wi-Fi and Broadband to Existing Connectivity Options For Mobile Workforce

April 12, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla. – Gartner Wireless & Mobile Summit – April 11, 2005 – Fiberlink Communications Corp., a leading innovator and trusted enterprise partner for secure mobile workforce solutions, today announced that Continental Airlines renewed its contract with Fiberlink and added Extend360 software to provide secure access for more than 1,500 employees in 150 cities. With one easy click, Continental’s mobile workers have secure access options, including Wi-Fi, broadband and CDMA, to send and receive e-mail, tap into their company’s intranet and customer database and access seat inventory and flight operations, all while working remotely.

The airline wanted ubiquitous access and security through an intuitive user interface as well as a migration path for future wireless and broadband upgrades. At the same time, IT staff needed to manage costs of various connectivity options and a way to easily comply with corporate policies and meet budgetary guidelines.

“Our employees were frustrated with low bandwidth dial-up connections, and the strategy we had in place was completely ad hoc and confusing for everyone, including the IT staff,” said Stacey Thomas, senior manager of telecommunications technology at Continental. “We’re thrilled with Fiberlink’s software-based client because it lets our IT staff easily manage the previously daunting task of monitoring access costs and compliance. And our employees don’t have to worry about access method or location. We have increased overall productivity while reducing the cost of mobile access by over 50 percent.”

Fiberlink offers the industry’s widest range of access options with end-to-end security in a unified package. Its tools give IT managers the ability to efficiently manage and monitor usage, performance and billing accuracy.

“Secure mobile computing is essential for businesses that want to stay competitive in today’s dynamic marketplace,” said Jonathan Fligner, North American regional vice president of Account Management for Fiberlink. “Continental will keep ahead of competitors by relying on Fiberlink’s integrated software and services, tying together multiple networks into a centralized system architecture to facilitate mobile worker productivity without compromising the security of the network or losing control of costs.”
