William R. Wagner Presents to Wharton School "Next Generation Technologies" Class
November 20, 2004
BLUE BELL, Pa., Nov. 19, 2004 - Fiberlink Communications Corp., a leading innovator and trusted enterprise partner for managed remote access software and services, announced today that its Chief Marketing Officer William R. Wagner spoke this week at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Wagner gave a guest lecture on product marketing and entrepreneurial issues at Fiberlink to students involved in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) class titled "Next Generation Technologies."
At the Wharton School, Wagner discussed the evolution of the remote access industry in the last decade. "Remote access the old way was done through modem banks, long distance cards and private networks -- and was prohibitively expensive. With an extensive roster of strategic technology partners, Fiberlink has helped transform the world of the extended enterprise by focusing on the broader set of business issues facing corporations, such as supporting legions of geographically dispersed employees while protecting them from myriad endpoint vulnerabilities."
Wagner described Fiberlink's business model in terms of strategic business objectives and innovative technology offerings. "From the beginning Fiberlink maintained a strict enterprise focus and has served large and mid-sized companies with an ever growing portfolio of managed remote access options including 3G and Wi-Fi. Fiberlink delivers value to its customers by integrating new technologies into a comprehensive solution that removes the management burden for busy CIOs and IT staff while at the same time enhancing worker productivity."
Concluding his lecture, Wagner said, "In the future, we will see multiple devices and types of transport, and products will require not just unification but simplification. Policy and business intelligence will extend beyond security and connectivity to offer 'optimized' mobility. And integration will extend to the application layer as all devices become smart devices."
Wagner is responsible for technology business development, product marketing and marketing communications at Fiberlink. Since joining the company in February 2000, Wagner has played a leading role in the evolution of Fiberlink's business model from a small company with 30 employees into a global leader in the managed remote access market. Wagner has led the introduction of new products, the restructuring of Fiberlink's supply chain and the implementation of several innovative marketing initiatives, all of which contributed to a tenfold growth in revenue over the past four years.
Prior to joining Fiberlink, Wagner spent 11 years at AT&T where he played a pivotal role in the Office of the Chairman team that developed AT&T's corporate brand strategy. Wagner is a 1999 graduate of Wharton's Executive MBA program.
