Integration Will Enable Secure Enterprise Network Access For Mobile and Remote Users
September 22, 2004
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA. - September 21, 2004 - VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), a leading provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the Internet and telecommunications networks , today announced that VeriSign and Fiberlink are working to finalize an agreement under which Fiberlink will offer VeriSign Unified Authentication as part of its managed remote access services portfolio for new and existing customers, including global enterprises, carriers, value-added resellers and system integrators. In addition, the two companies plan to develop new authentication solutions that address the needs of enterprises looking for support for devices such as tokens, smartcards, SIM cards, and others where no user response is required.
IT managers at large enterprises are challenged to implement ever-stronger authentication schemes that ensure valuable corporate resources are made available only to the workers who need them, especially as more workers connect remotely from a variety of devices and work environments. Fiberlink's extensible Dynamic Network Architecture™ (DNA) will incorporate VeriSign's existing and emerging strong authentication solutions, simplifying deployment and management in a unified corporate remote access framework.
"By introducing VeriSign Unified Authentication into our security services suite, we can offer our customers a specific strong authentication solution that addresses their current and future needs," said Skip Taylor, vice president of product marketing at Fiberlink. "The appeal of the solution is that it is an open approach that leverages customers existing infrastructures, and will extend to a number of rapidly evolving authentication devices that include smartcards, SIM cards, and others that incorporate minimal response from the end user."
Announced earlier today, VeriSign Unified Authentication is a new security solution that enables enterprises to utilize a single, integrated platform for their strong authentication needs. VeriSign Unified Authentication is available to customers starting September 30, 2004 . VeriSign Unified Authentication supports multi-purpose authentication tokens including One Time Password (OTP), PKI, and smartcard functionality with a USB interface .
