BLUE BELL, Pa. - May 17, 2004 - Fiberlink Communications Corp., a leading provider of managed security and remote connectivity solutions for global enterprises, today announced that Gartner Inc. positioned the company in the Leader quadrant in its newly released "U.S. Managed Remote-Access 1H04 Magic Quadrant(1) ."
Gartner reported that vendors this year must offer more than just access to be listed in the Leader quadrant, marking a shift in market expectations and raising the bar for inclusion in the Managed Remote-Access Magic Quadrant. According to this year's evaluation criteria, competitive providers need to deliver "connections via all possible access technologies via an intelligent access client, and they need to provide network managers with the policy management tools to enable them to still impose security and use policies, with the least impact on the users as possible." According to Gartner, vendors listed in the Leaders quadrant are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.
A long-time proponent of enterprise policy management, Fiberlink championed the market-steering concept of an intelligent access client in 2003. The company offers fully managed services for fixed branch offices and mobile workers, forcing other market players to react to the company's advances, and providing easy-to-use, Web-based policy management tools.
Fiberlink announced its award-winning intelligent access client, Extend360 ™, in November 2003. Powered by its previously announced Dynamic Network Architecture ™(DNA), Extend360™ offers mobile and remote workers an effective, secure way to access corporate networks when away from the office. With its Policy Center - the heart of Fiberlink's centralized remote access platform - enterprises can enforce and adjust enterprise policies on the fly, retrieve business intelligence reports and quickly access billing information and departmental charge-backs. Extend360 TM also includes innovative new features like:
"Yesterday's pure remote access has given way to intelligent access management. It's no longer enough to simply provide a connection to corporate resources, especially since there are so many new wireless and wired options available to mobile workers," said Skip Taylor, vice president of product marketing at Fiberlink. "Instead, remote access is about managing and controlling remote workers' behavior when they log onto the corporate network - giving the right privileges to the right people at the right time. As more mobile employees become untethered, it's essential for companies to support flexible wireless networks and fully manage costs and vulnerabilities."
Fiberlink is a leading provider of secure remote access solutions, unifying worldwide remote access, management and enforcement within existing IT policy. Fiberlink addresses the growing infrastructure complexities of enterprise access brought on by the demands of an expanding business ecosystem. From employees to partners, remote offices to extranets, dial-up to wireless to broadband, Fiberlink allows enterprises to capitalize on extended business opportunities. Multi-network redundancy, best-of-breed application services and support, low total cost of ownership and minimal impact on IT help make Fiberlink an important business partner.
With more than 500,000 corporate users, analyst firms such as Gartner, Burton Group and Yankee Group recognize Fiberlink as a leader and innovator in remote access services. Fiberlink customers include General Electric, BMC Software, Computer Sciences Corporation, Royal Caribbean, The Gillette Company, and Sun Healthcare. Headquartered in Blue Bell, Pa., Fiberlink has offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
