BLUE BELL, Pa., May 10, 2004 - Fiberlink Communications Corp., a leading provider of managed security and remote connectivity solutions for global enterprises, today announced that it has acquired the enterprise remote access business of Level 3 Communications, Inc.(Nasdaq:LVLT), the international communications and information services company based in Broomfield, Colo. This business currently delivers enterprise remote access services under the eRASSM or Dialinx® brands.
Under the terms of the agreement, Fiberlink will begin directly providing the Level 3 remote access customer base with its own industry-leading enterprise connectivity platform, which currently serves over 400 enterprise customers globally. Prior to the acquisition, Fiberlink was already a key partner to Level 3, building and managing the underlying client software for the business and providing international access and phone book management for customers.
"We welcome the Level 3 customers with open arms into our family of leading enterprises and over 500,000 end users," said Jim Sheward, chief executive office of Fiberlink. "This transaction stands as a significant validation of our customer-service achievements, innovative underlying technology and track record delivering remote access solutions to today's global corporations."
Kevin O'Hara, Level 3's president and chief operating officer, said the transaction makes strategic sense for Level 3 given the company's wholesale strategy. "Level 3 acquired this business through its acquisition of Genuity assets last year, and we believe we can better serve our customers through a dedicated, enterprise-focused, secure remote access partner," O'Hara said. "Fiberlink has established itself as one of the leading providers of enterprise connectivity in the U.S, and is well positioned to offer these customers a seamless transition and the highest quality of service going forward."
Fiberlink's extensible architecture, built on the DNA TM platform and Extend360 TM remote access client, gives Level 3 customers a growth path to integrate any number of current and emerging access technologies, such as 3G wireless, Wi-Fi, dial-up and broadband, into their existing remote access package. Even more, Level 3 customers can rest assured that their remote access solution is secure and protected through tight integration with end-point security solutions, such as those provided by partners like Cisco Systems, Checkpoint, Nortel, RSA Security, Symantec, and Zone Labs, to name a few.
