Fiberlink's Managed Endpoint Security Deployments Lead Market, Exceed Yankee Group Predictions
May 3, 2004
BLUE BELL, Pa., - May 3, 2004 - Fiberlink Communications Corp., a leading provider of managed security and remote access solutions for Fortune 500 firms such as General Electric, The Gillette Company and Computer Science Corp., today revealed that it currently has over 100,000 personal firewalls under management, making it the single largest provider of managed endpoint security services in the remote access marketplace.
Corporate networks are under constant assault from network-born viruses and worms, which cost worldwide businesses an estimated $55 billion in 2003, up from $20 to 30 billion in 2002 and $13 billion in 2001(1). Because of this threat, approximately one out of every two customers that choose Fiberlink for its remote access services today also opts to have the company fully manage its personal firewalls to safeguard its remote workforce. In fact, in 2003 50 percent of new customers Fiberlink signed chose to have the company manage the Internet Security Systems (ISS) personal firewall, RealSecure Desktop Protector, helping to thwart such attacks and marking rapid growth in awareness of the importance of protecting remote endpoints.
"Fiberlink is currently a leading provider of managed personal firewalls for enterprises, and the single largest supplier of RealSecure Desktop Protector licenses, our flagship personal firewall solution," said Greg Adams, vice president of product management for ISS. "Together, Fiberlink and ISS deliver global enterprises the strongest endpoint defenses by distributing this fully managed, fully hosted firewall solution across a company's remote network of computers, laptops and other mobile devices."
In November 2001, the Yankee Group recognized Fiberlink for pioneering the Remote Endpoint Security (REPS) market when it began integrating managed security solutions for its Fortune 500 customers. At that time the Yankee Group stated that such managed solutions are going to be a "must-have" within 18 months given the explosive growth in blended security threats at that time.
"In our original report, Yankee forecast the REPS market would surpass $170 million by 2007, with over 3 million endpoint security service clients installed," said Matthew Kovar, vice president of Security Solutions & Services at the Yankee Group. "Fiberlink was the first company to target the REPS market, and is not only validating our prediction, but actually unlocking new demand through an innovative approach to managed security through integration with vulnerability management technologies like BigFix's."
Earlier this year, Fiberlink announced a partnership with BigFix, a leading provider of vulnerability management solutions. Together, the two companies will deliver the first fully managed solution to offer full identification and remediation of vulnerabilities and other configuration management capabilities for mobile and remote computers.
Fiberlink's intelligent access manager, Extend360, and the underlying platform, Dynamic Network Architecture, are currently available. Pricing varies with volume and configuration of security components.
